The Meet Cute
David and I met in college through a group of mutual friends. Our group of friends would go dancing and he was one of the few guys we could always count on to come out every week! Let’s be honest, how many guys do you know that are willing to do that? We eventually started dating and six months later we got engaged. What can I say, when you know you know! We planned our dream wedding in 6 months in the hill country of Wimberly, TX, and got married on September 7, 2013.
The Beginning of Goggins Creations
In October 2013, we moved into our first house together in Katy, TX. Making it home was not an easy task, but we were up for the challenge. We removed all of the gosh-awful white tiles on the floor and replaced them with wood floors, painted the entire house (both walls and trim), and did a complete master bath remodel! When it was time to decorate, we used finds from garage sales and estate sales. We upcycled everything and made it new, which brought me so much joy. I was very proud of how much we made our first house feel like a home. A few months later, we took out a DBA for Goggins Creations. We didn’t know exactly what we were going to do with it, but we knew we wanted to start our own small business. We started by making and selling wooden blanket ladders on Facebook and placed them at a local boutique. They were a huge hit! For Mother’s Day 2014, while I was pregnant with my first daughter, David bought me a Silhouette which took decorating our home to a whole new level! We made pantry sings, “welcome” front porch signs, and Mother’s Day signs for both of our moms. The signs we made for them read “Grandchildren fill a place in your heart you never knew was empty,” with a slat attached that had our soon-to-arrive bundle of joy’s name. Little did we know that this sign would help our small business take off!
Helping make your house a home
In 2015 we opened our Etsy shop online to much success! In March of 2016, we participated in our first craft show in Katy and continued to participate in tons of local craft shows that year. Doing craft shows helped us to become well known in Katy and the surrounding areas! We participated in craft shows non-stop until December 2018, when it became too much to juggle the craft shows and family life with two kids. In February 2017, we decided to branch out and start hosting sign painting parties. We hosted our first one at a friend’s house with over 20 women present. It was a blast and a fantastic experience! However, I was pregnant with our second daughter at the time, so it wore me out! We put sign painting parties on hold until after Makenna arrived. In the fall of 2017, we started offering sign painting parties again. By the end of 2018, we had launched our website.
Introducing Fusion Mineral Paint and New Beginnings
2019 was a challenging year, both personally and for our small business. In January 2019, I was introduced to Fusion Mineral Paint by my good friend Ginger of Ginger Grace Creations. She helped me create a love for painting and was there to answer all of my million painting questions! This was also around the time when David discovered his passion for teaching and decided to pursue it. For the next few months, he worked around the clock to become a certified math teacher. This meant late nights and tons of studying while we juggled 2 kids and a small business. Goggins Creations started to take a back seat because we no longer had the time to hold sign painting parties and participate in craft shows. We decided to focus on our online presence and invested more into our website. In August 2019, David accepted a teaching job in DFW. We had not yet sold our house, so the girls and I stayed in Katy without him to provide home life stability for them until the house sold. In October of 2019, the girls and I joined David in Justin, TX. We became a Fusion Mineral Paint retailer in November 2019. We love the product and wanted to expand our business further since we were starting over without out local following from Katy, TX. Adding Fusion Mineral Paint to Goggins Creations was one of the best decisions we could have made! The paint really does sell itself.
New Year, New Challenges, & New Opportunities
The had big plans to begin craft shows in the DFW area in 2020 but COVID-19 put a pause on our plans. However, through this pandemic we have seen a lot of growth online and were able to finally build the studio and workshop of our dreams! This studio is where I hope to host sign painting parties and Fusion Mineral Paint workshops one day. We are eager to see what else 2020 holds for us.
